Problem
Drilling and blasting techniques are widely employed in the gold mining sector to efficiently facilitate ore removal. The equipment must be able to continuously endure the high impact rock and sediment impact throughout the difficult process of boring holes. The drill cone, a crucial component of machinery that spins between 600 and 1,200 rpm, helps retain and channel rock to reduce dust formation and debris dispersal.
The drill cone had sustained significant impact, abrasion, and corrosive damage as a result of constant exposure to these demanding conditions. The mine had welded steel plates to the surface of the cone to remedy this damage, but the plates eventually broke down, necessitating more repairs. The client required a long-lasting epoxy covering that could endure the punishing conditions of borehole drilling.
Solution
The drill bit was coated with Devcon DFense Blok coating to offer defense against abrasion and wear.
The drill cone component experiencing abrasive wear was removed before the application procedure could start.
For adequate surface preparation, the inside surface of the cone was roughened with an abrasive disc pad until the white metal was revealed.
To guarantee homogeneity, Devcon DFense Blok hardener was simply blended with the resin using an internal mixer.
The prepared drill cone surface was then manually covered with Devcon DFense Blok using a trowel.
Superior Abrasion Resistance as a Project Outcome
An industrial strength epoxy coating called Devcon DFense Blok, which has resisted even the hardest mining industry conditions, is quite effective. The drill cone's interior was coated with Devcon DFense Blok, which shielded the machinery from damaging impact and abrasive wear.
Easy and Quick Installation
It was crucial to ensure quick repair of the drill cone to reduce downtime and maintain operations. The epoxy coating was quickly and smoothly applied with Devcon DFense Blok. Furthermore, application of Devcon DFense Blok was seamless due to the product's non-sagging consistency, despite the upper half of the drill cone's cylindrical shape.
Lower Repair Costs
Prior repairs included tack welding steel AR plates to the outside surface of the drill cone. By hiring outside personnel, this process can become particularly expensive. With Devcon DFense Blok, the epoxy coating was easily applied by plant maintenance staff, effectively reducing the overall repair costs of the drill cone.
